Waiting at swimming lessons
I am sitting at the pool while J has his lesson. There are competitive swim club teenagers having their practice in the lanes next to the lessons lane. They are doing race starts followed by two lengths of swimming. When I watch them swim front crawl, the movement of their bodies seems to create a disproportionate propulsion. It looks like they have motors moving them along while they make swimming motions and hardly put in any effort at all. It's a product of fitness and technique and contrasts highly with the lane of level seven and eight swimming lessons kids right beside them who look like they are all putting in a great amount of effort and are not moving nearly as fast.
I'm seeing the same effect now with back crawl. It must be unseen power coming from the legs.
