Tuesday April 22

I took some shoes to my favourite cobbler downtown so he could resole the heels.
I like his shop. It's basic and utilitarian and completely non tech.
Our hybrid chestnut tree in the front yard is splitting and half of it is going to come down soon I think. It's a boulevard tree belonging to the city so I will be phoning them to come and cut some of it off.
So, they did come and cut the tree right down.

And here are some words on a different topic. Sort of poemy.

The kitchen is kind and generous; affording every member of the house as much time as they desire to rattle and clatter about within it.

The house feels properly full and comfortable again with Eva back home. At the same time, I feel the weight of thinking of ingredients for all the school lunches tomorrow and providing food, proper meals, for the full house load.

Saturday April 19

I went along on a choir festival outing with the middle school choir.
Tobin biking on his way home from school.
The dock for Wake Up The Gorge just before everything got started for the races.
Julias birthday bubble tea makers.
This all we had to put candles into, a dish of ice cream.
Lovely blossomy tree next to the crosswalk.
Grocery run and picking up a freebie on the way back home.

Tuesday, April 8

I went to visit Michelle today and saw Kylie.
I also met Binky, the male who is twice as big as her. And runs quick. And can make his beard super black. And is a lot spikier.

Monday April 7

We went for a walk up Terrace Ave yesterday and looped around the "block" and back to the car. Totally nice sunny day.
Saw some cool houses. The squarish ones have full roof decks. I like that.

Sunday April 6

We, minus Jeff, tried to light our fire in the cabin. It only kind our worked.
Failed fire.
Cool stuff from the Goats on the Roof Coombs Market.
The kitchen floor after first coat of varathane to fix it up do we don't get slivers off it. It will certainly need more coats.
Breakfast.

Saturday April 5

So after checking out of our cabin at 12 we had four hours until Jeff was done his conference. So we headed over to Coombs first and went to Butterfly World. While inside I remembered that the last time we went to a Butterfly world was for Eva's birthday, eighth maybe or ninth? So here we were back again on Eva's birthday!
Then we went to the market at Coombs. Really cool pottery urns for outside.
Then we headed back to Parksville, after a quick check out of Rathtrevor Beach (cold, windy and raining), did laser tag bumper cars.  More fun than I thought it would be at first. Every time you hit another player their cars does a bunch of fast spins.

Then we played mini golf and Tobin had fun. He has got old enough to enjoy it now.

Friday April 4

Today was pizza day. Here are my fellow hot lunch coordinators, and eminently sensible people, Lindsay and Darren aka Stinky (I don't know why, something to do with his step daughter's class)
A lovely thank you compilation at the top of the stairs.
And now we are at Tigh-Na-Mara. We left home at 1 ish and stopped at the Nanaimo Costco on the way for some food and some clothes for Julias. Jeff has a pharmacy conference here all day tomorrow so we all got to come along and share his fancy cabin. It's a full two bedroom cabin with a kitchen and everything.
Checking in at reception.
Our "woodpile".  There's a fireplace inside and we are welcome to light the fire.
And below is the porch with Adirondack chairs and picnic table.

Thursday April 3

The xtracycles of SJD. Including Edgar.
There are at least 2 more, I think, that I haven't seen this week so didn't get a picture of yet.
Only one more now I think.

Tuesday April 1

First paddling practice of the new season. The explorers group who are mostly all 13 now. It may change around as the month goes on, we will see.
The weather was super nice. I biked down with Julias and gave them a hand getting out on the water and then it was 6:10 so I just hung around and read the rest of A Fault in Our Stars that I had on my phone as an e book from the library.

Tostadas for dinner. Yum!
